Code of Ethics

ABOHN has a responsibility to ensure the integrity of all processes and products of its certification programs to the public, the professionals, the employers, colleagues, certificants and the profession.  Therefore, ABOHN considers the AAOHN Code of Ethics as the essential ethical framework for honoring human dignity and professional accountability.  Certificants shall, in their professional activities, sustain and advance the integrity, honor and prestige of the profession.

Gross or repeated negligence, incompetence or malpractice in professional work will be considered grounds for disciplinary action.  These include but are not limited to:

  • habitual use of alcohol or any drug or any substance
  • physical or mental condition that currently impairs competent professional performance
  • others that pose a substantial risk to patient health or safety

If ABOHN receives proof of any of the above mentioned issues they will notify employers, state boards of nursing and/or inform professional or consumer organizations at the discretion of Legal Council and the ABOHN Board of Directors.

ABOHN upholds the high standards for the credentialing agency established by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
