Recertification
To maintain "Active" COHN/COHN-S and CM statuses, recertification is required every 5 years.
Recertification eligibility criteria includes:
- Active licensure as a registered nurse (RN), or an international equivalent:

3,000 hours of occupational health nursing practice (work experience) completed in the previous 5 years.

ABOHN certifications reflect a nurse practicing at or above proficient level. OHN work experience is required for the nurse to maintain proficient or above status.

50 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) contact hours related to occupational health practice.

Contact hours are representative of continual growth. ABOHN's current requirement for 50 hours is based on 10 hours per year; bench marked across other nursing specialties, state licenses, and other certification boards.
